Library Feasibility Study

The Longmont area has grown quite a lot since the current library building was completed in 1993, and technology has changed the way people gather information for research, entertainment, and community connection. In December 2019, the City of Longmont began a feasibility study to contemplate the future of the Longmont Public Library. Specifically, the study is intended to discover what the Longmont community most wants and needs from its library and how those goals can best be achieved with potential funding structures. The outcome of this study will likely affect the Library (and therefore, the community) for decades to come.

Between January 17 and February 17, more than 1,400 people took the survey to determine what our community needs from its library moving forward. Results of the survey are being analyzed by the consulting team hired to complete the feasibility study. Those results will be reflected in the final feasibility study report. Thank you to everyone to took the time to complete the survey.

In order to compile as much information as possible from as many residents as possible, the Library hosted five community meetings around town to hear directly from members of the public about what they believe the Longmont Public Library should offer. If you took time to attend one of the meetings, thank you! Your voices were heard and your comments and suggestions will be incorporated into the final report.
